Primary Game Fish
| Muskellunge (Musky) | Known as a “trophy” destination. While many anglers fish the shallows, others often find success targeting depths of 20–40 feet near deep weedlines and structural transitions. | Minimum length limit of 40″ with a daily bag limit of 1. (Season opens May 2, 2026) |
| Walleye | The population is entirely supported by natural reproduction. They are most active at dawn and dusk; jigging along deep structural breaks or trolling crankbaits at 6–8 feet is a proven strategy. | Daily bag limit of 3. No minimum length limit, but only 1 fish over 14″ may be kept |
| Smallmouth & Largemoth Bass | Smallmouths frequent the rocky reefs and gravel bars (abundant in this lake), while Largemouths are typically found in the shallower, weedy bays. | Smallmouth: Catch and release only from May 2 to June 19. Harvest Season (June 20 – March 7): 18″ minimum length, bag limit of 1 (combined with Largemouth). |
| Panfish | Abundant Bluegill, Crappie, and Yellow Perch make the lake a favorite for families. Look for them around docks and submerged brush piles in 8–15 feet of water. | Daily bag limit of 25; no minimum length limit |
Motor Trolling is allowed with up to 3 hooks/baits/lures per boat.
Angling Tips for Success
- Stay Stealth in Clear Water – Because the water is so clear, consider using fluorocarbon leaders and lighter tackle to avoid spooking fish.
- The “Deep” Secret – Unlike many Northwoods lakes, Presque Isle’s Musky often hold much deeper than visitors expect. Use your bathymetric map to find steep drop-offs and deep-water humps.
- Protect Our Waters – Help keep Presque Isle Lake pristine. Please clean, drain, and dry your watercraft and equipment to prevent the spread of invasive species like the Rusty Crayfish.
